Prepare before the deadline

Build an application
around community priorities.

  • Name the purpose: identify the language, collection and people the work will support.
  • Establish authority: document who can approve digitization, access, teaching uses and any proposed technology.
  • Inventory the materials: estimate the formats, quantity, condition and urgency.
  • Cost the full workflow: include staff time, speaker or Elder involvement, training, transfer, equipment, storage and continuing care where eligible.
  • Plan the handover: specify the skills, files, metadata and documentation that will remain with the community.
  • Assign the next step: identify the application lead and set an internal review date before the funder’s deadline.

Talking Owl can help with technical scoping, workflow design, training plans and quotes. The community remains the applicant and decision maker; funding decisions belong to the funder.
